Pain & Illness
Chronic Pain and Illness can be present because our body is not healing, because physical damage is ongoing (e.g. in arthritis, cancer etc.) or without a clear physical cause.

Pain becomes a daily experience for you and it has begun to affect what you do. Being able to do the things you used to do seem so impossible intron making you feel alone and misunderstood.

Emotional symptoms usually develop when medical treatment does not eliminate the pain or illness. Emotional distress can increase the intensity of the pain and the dysfunction caused by the illness. Those suffering Chronic Pain and Illness have higher levels of stress, greater difficulty with day-to-day functioning, and experience greater discrimination. As such, a good treatment plan should include both medical and psychological interventions.

At Atan therapy we provide the psychological treatment. This helps you to learn how to predict and manage the pain cycle; how to use coping skills to minimise pain; how to emotionally process loss; and how to maximise active involvement in positive life experiences, despite the presence of chronic pain and illness.
We understand no two individuals will experience pain the same way. We know how intimate the relationship between mind, body and chronic pain is. We will help you address both the emotional and physical aspects of your pain.
