Telehealth
In face-to-face therapy, a lot of consideration goes into the treatment rooms. This is done as it helps establish a sense of stability, calmness, comfort and trust. With online therapy or telehealth, the responsibility is shared between your therapist and you.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your telehealth sessions:
-
Try to sit in the same place for each session that you have, a room where you feel relaxed, with a chair/ couch that brings you comfort.
-
Take into consideration what is needed for you to be comfortable. It could be tissues, a glass of water or a cup of tea.
-
It would be best to use a laptop or desktop computer for your sessions. If you are using a phone or a tablet, make sure your notifications are off. Whatever the device, try to have it on a stable surface.
-
Your internet connection ideally should be a good strong one to limit any disturbances.
-
Try and have good lighting and avoid sitting in front of a light source like a window so that there is no shadow cast on your face and the therapist can see you clearly.
-
If there is a chance of another person entering the space where you are holding your session it would be advisable to put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door to find another way to secure the space.
-
Avoid taking your sessions in public spaces as this could compromise the confidentiality of your session.
-
Do not participate in a session if you are under the influence of any substance.
